Cursed Per Se

The idea of a generational curse loomed over Calhoun Mane. He wallowed in self-pity throughout his adolescence and well into adulthood. After hearing his relatives complain about the curse throughout their lives, he came to believe in its effects. Every aspect of his life had felt disrupted from the start. Calhoun prayed to God for the change he needed to give him the new life he desired.

Calhoun fell prey to events that hindered his ability to achieve his goals. Most of his problems stemmed from relatives too stubborn to get out of their own way. Not that Calhoun had experienced an epiphany that led to new discoveries. People who knew him had often wondered about his level of sadness. Depression left him with low energy and increased the likelihood of the curse’s intent.

When Calhoun realized that curses were just a preposterous idea, his determination drove him to seek his true potential. Despite repeated failures to overcome the influence of human nature, he kept trying. At one point, he feared nothing would ever succeed. A visit to a psychic medium revealed insights about the curse, and a conclusion truly stunned Calhoun. 

Madam Florentine owned a local business, reading Tarot cards for citizens. She explained, “The curse that consumes your life is a self-inducive reaction to the negativity from your relationships. If you want to shed this curse, stop believing in its power.”

Calhoun knew at that point in his process that he had acted like a damned fool.
